What the work involves
Day to day
Assessing and supporting people with disabilities toward independence - individualised education and therapy plans, skill training, family guidance and coordination with medical and educational services.
Who this suits
Fit
Patient, observant people who find progress in small increments rewarding. India has a severe shortage of trained rehabilitation professionals against enormous need, so qualified practitioners are genuinely sought after and the work is unambiguously valuable.
The honest reality
Read this one
Practice requires a Rehabilitation Council of India recognised qualification and registration - check any course's approval status before paying fees, because unrecognised programmes are sold widely and leave graduates unable to work. Progress with clients is slow and sometimes absent, which is emotionally demanding over years. Pay is low relative to the training required. Services and posts are concentrated in cities while the need is largely rural.
