Day to day
Ground-level railway operations - track maintenance, station and depot work - or protection force duty covering property, passenger security and patrolling.
Who this suits
Fit
Candidates who have completed Class 10 and want a permanent government job without further qualification. Very few routes offer that combination, and the security and benefits are real.
The honest reality
Read this one
Enormous applicant numbers and long, unpredictable gaps between recruitment cycles - preparing for these examinations is a multi-year gamble with no guaranteed outcome. Track maintenance is hard outdoor labour in all weather, and working near live lines is dangerous. Promotion prospects from the entry grade are limited without clearing departmental examinations.
