Day to day

Competition is severe - applications per vacancy run into the lakhs, and the selection cycle from notification to joining can take a long time. Loco pilot duty is irregular, away from home, and involves night running; fatigue and the psychological weight of level-crossing and track accidents are documented problems in the service. Initial postings can be anywhere in the zone.
