What the work involves

Day to day

Sailor entry into the Navy - technical and seamanship duties for the science-stream route, or catering and hospitality trades in the matric recruit route, serving aboard ships and at shore establishments.

02

Who this suits

Fit

Candidates wanting naval service with entry after Class 10 or 12. The technical trades in particular build skills - electrical, mechanical, electronics - that hold civilian value afterwards, which makes this among the better short-service entries.

03

The honest reality

Read this one

Medical and swimming standards are strict. Sea duty means long periods away and confined living conditions that people underestimate until they experience them. As with all short-service entry, most will leave after the term without pension, so treat the technical training as the asset and get it formally certified where possible. Trade allocation may not match your preference.
