Understand the role
Preventive and lifestyle health: diet and fasting therapy, yoga as treatment rather than exercise, hydrotherapy and physical therapies, mostly for chronic lifestyle conditions and stress rather than acute illness.
What the work involves
Day to day
Assessing lifestyle and history, designing diet and therapy programmes, delivering yoga therapy and physical treatments, and following clients over weeks. In a resort or clinic setting it also involves a substantial amount of client handling and programme sales.
Who should choose it
Fit
People genuinely drawn to preventive health and willing to work in the wellness sector as it is — resorts, lifestyle clinics, corporate programmes and private practice. Choose it for that. It is a real and growing market, and BNYS graduates are among the best qualified people in it.
The reality of the job
Read this one
Do not choose this as a substitute for MBBS. The degree runs five and a half years and uses a NEET score, which makes the comparison tempting, but practice rights, recognition and government employment are far narrower and vary by state and are actively disputed. Students who took it as a fallback are the ones who regret it; students who wanted preventive health are not.
Practically: most work is private sector, income depends heavily on where you are and how well you sell a programme, and government AYUSH posts for naturopathy are few. Confirm in writing what your state and college recognition actually permits before you commit the time.
