Government project work is contract-based as often as permanent, tied to scheme funding cycles. Field postings are rural and involve extensive travel. Watershed work requires community agreement that is slow and politically fraught to obtain, and technically sound plans fail on village politics regularly. Private micro-irrigation roles are frequently sales positions with an engineering title.
