What the work involves

Day to day

Close study of texts, criticism and language. It leads into content and editorial work, publishing, teaching, advertising, communications, and any role where writing clearly is the actual job.

02

Who this suits

Fit

Strong readers and writers. Command of written English remains a real advantage in the Indian job market, and content, communications and publishing hire steadily from this degree without demanding a further qualification.

03

The honest reality

Read this one

Entry-level content work is poorly paid and often unstructured, and generative AI has already absorbed a lot of the routine writing that beginners used to learn on. Teaching posts require the eligibility examination and a postgraduate degree. The graduates who do well are the ones who pair the degree with an editorial, digital or subject specialism rather than presenting themselves as a general writer.
