What the work involves

Day to day

Producing written material for organisations - articles, web and product copy, newsletters, documentation - and editing others' work for accuracy, structure and voice.

02

Who this suits

Fit

Clear writers with subject curiosity. It is one of the most accessible remote and freelance careers in India, entry is by portfolio rather than credential, and every organisation produces content continuously.

03

The honest reality

Read this one

This is the career most directly affected by generative AI, and pretending otherwise would be a disservice: undifferentiated writing work has already fallen in both volume and rate. What holds value is domain expertise, original reporting, editorial judgement and the ability to fix AI output that is fluent and wrong. Generic content writing as a long-term career is a weak bet; subject specialisation is not. Freelance income is irregular and late payment is standard.
