What the work involves

Day to day

Running a construction business - winning work, arranging finance, procuring materials, managing labour and subcontractors, and delivering to programme while staying solvent.

02

Who this suits

Fit

Engineers with capital, appetite for risk and a network. This is where the money in construction actually is, and technical background gives a real edge in estimating and controlling a job that a purely commercial operator lacks.

03

The honest reality

Read this one

Cash flow kills contractors far more often than bad building - you fund materials and wages months before payment arrives, and delayed payment is standard practice in Indian construction rather than an exception. Regulatory approvals are slow and the sector has well-known integrity problems you will have to decide how to navigate. Real estate cycles are severe and downturns take businesses with them. You carry personal financial liability, often against pledged assets.
