What the work involves

Day to day

Applying biological systems industrially - fermentation and bioprocess development, purification, scale-up from laboratory to plant, and production of biologics, enzymes and industrial biotech products.

02

Who this suits

Fit

Students genuinely interested in the science who intend to go further with it. Biologics and biosimilar manufacturing in India has grown into a real industry, and bioprocess engineers are needed in it.

03

The honest reality

Read this one

This deserves a plain warning: biotechnology has been marketed to Indian students far beyond what the job market supports, and the bachelor's degree alone has weak employment outcomes. Early-career pay is low and a master's or doctorate is effectively required for research work. Many graduates end up in unrelated fields. Go in only if you intend to complete postgraduate study, and choose the institution carefully.
