What the work involves
Day to day
Performing on stage or screen, and the far larger amount of time spent training, auditioning and waiting. Theatre work involves long rehearsal periods and touring; screen work is project-based and irregular.
Who this suits
Fit
People for whom this is not really a choice. Formal training builds craft that survives beyond looks or luck, and streaming has widened the range of work available to trained actors who are not conventional leads.
The honest reality
Read this one
The income distribution is brutally unequal - a small number earn a great deal and most earn very little, and talent is not what separates them. Theatre in India rarely pays a living wage on its own, so most actors teach, do voice work or hold another job. Casting involves networks, appearance and access, and it is not a fair process. The industry also has documented problems with exploitation, particularly of newcomers. Give it a defined number of years and a clear fallback.
